“AVIATION DAY”
FLIES INTO BENTON AIRPARK (O85) IN REDDING, CA ON FATHER’S DAY, SUNDAY, JUNE 17th
Everyone is invited to the annual “Aviation Day” flying
festivities at Benton Airpark (O85) on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 17th between
7:00 am and 3:00 pm. Benton Airpark is
located in West Redding at the corner of Placer St. and Airpark Drive. The day’s activities include helicopter
rides from Air Shasta and scenic airplane rides from Hillside Aviation, antique
and experimental aircraft displays, ultralight displays and radio controlled
aircraft displays. CHP and REACH
aircraft will also be on display Parking and admission are free. Things get under way at 7:00 am with a ham,
eggs and pancake breakfast cooked and served by volunteers from the Mt. Shasta
Chapter of 99’s, an organization of women pilots. The cost for the “Aviation Day” breakfast will be $6.00 for
adults and $4.00 for children 12 and under.
Breakfast will be served until 11:00 am. This year Aviation Day celebrates the 80th anniversary
of Benton Field. The airport was named
in honor of a Shasta County resident, Lieutenant John W. Benton, a U.S. Army
Air Corp pilot who lost his life in a flight at Buenos Aires, Argentina in
1927. Benton Field is one of the two
important airport facilities in the City of Redding. Aviation Day is a day to recognize the major contribution Benton
Field makes to the economic vitality of the City of Redding. Kids, bring your dads and granddads to
“Aviation Day”, take a plane ride and feel the joy of flying.
