Old Business:
Young
Eagle Flights Administrative Review.
Jim B. suggested we take a close look at how we conduct the Young Eagle Flights. The objective is to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for each child. Demonstrating to the parents that their child is in a safe environment administered by aviation experience persons.
Conducting the flights from the Quonset Hut seems to provide the safest setting for managing the number of parents and children. By rearranging the tables in the Quonset Hut it will allow for more maneuvering space, waiting areas and space to operate a couple of Simulators. It was suggested we provide coffee (drinks for the kids) and donuts as refreshments during the time they are signing up and waiting their turn to take a flight. Probably suggest that the child wait until they have returned from the flight before eating.
It was suggested each pilot/aircraft have a Crew Chief assigned to them. The Crew Chief would relieve the pilot of the required paperwork, guiding the child (and parents) to and from the aircraft. The Crew Chief would be in charge of picking up the application (for signature by the pilot before the flight) signed by the parent, taking the child (s) to the aircraft and take their pictures. Upon return of the flight the Crew Chief will escort the next child(s) to the aircraft and secure the signature of the pilot on the Certificate (of the completed flight) (and the application for the next flight) and escort the child back to the desk where he/she can pick up their Certificate, photos and packet material. It is suggested the “desk” could be set up at the Sun Shade aircraft parking area. The parents could have the option of watching the flights from the Sun Shade safe area or at the Quonset Hut. Because of the distance between the Quonset Hut and the ramp, it was suggested we find a couple of golf carts to expedite the travel between the two. (Someone know of a 1944 era jeep we could borrow?)
Since there is a certain lag time in making photos and Certificates, it was suggested we have one camera per Crew Chief and two or more photo producing computer/printers. They would operating during the flight. Having more than one or two qualified personnel available to operate same would be desirable.
The forgoing suggested management suggestions would expedite the flights taking place, keeping the aircraft “in the air” and thereby fly more children in a given period of time. The purpose is not to “rush” the experience for the children but to do as many as possible between 9AM and 12noon. Generally, the turbulence begins to pick up (not always) in the afternoon. The reason for the flights is to give the children as smooth and safe flight as possible so they are left with a memorable experience.
The next Young Eagle Flights are April 17, 2010. It was suggested the City of Redding Mayor be invited to observe.
Scholarship/National EAA Academy. Paul G. reported he has received 8 applicant letters in response to the advertisements placed by Jim B. Kathleen received three telephone calls. Deadline was Dec. 31, 2009. It was decided by consensus not to extend the deadline. The letters were given to Kathleen E. and her Committee (Audrey, Barb C. and Kathleen) for review, interviewing and ultimate selection of a candidate. The deadline for presenting a candidate to EAA National from our Chapter will be the end of March 2010.

Attention
Aircraft Builders
AIRCRAFT UNDER CONSTRUCTION/RESTORATION
In
recent discussions, the Board of Directors realized we don't know how many
homebuilders there are in the area, or who they are. We set about
creating a list of the builders we know of, to build a resource for helping
one another and networking. For example, if someone has a problem
with some aspect of building a particular model of RV, the list could help him
find someone who has experience with that aircraft. Another purpose for
the list could be to contact homebuilders who are not Chapter members to
encourage them to attend meetings and join the Chapter. Another purpose
for the list could be as a resource to invite homebuilders to occasionally
participate as panel members for a program for a regular meeting of the whole
membership, to discuss aspects of homebuilding that would be of general
interest.
To make this resource successful, we need your help. Below is a start of a list of homebuilders who fly out of either Benton Field or Redding Muni. As you will see, we don't have a complete list of mail and/or phone numbers and there may be other homebuilders that should be on the list. If you know a phone number or email address or other names, please send an email or give a call to Kathleen Evans kathleen@evans.net; phone: 396-2422 or Herb Zuidema pgadoneh@myexcel.com; phone 275 5103
